RETREAT

Yoga, Field & Sea

Natalie’s Yoga Field and Sea retreat is a different kind of experience altogether. Based at a beautiful farm in Devon, guests sleep in tipis in a wide open field, come together to eat in a gorgeous old barn around a long higgledy piggledy table dressed with wildflowers and rustic tins, and gather around an outdoor fire pit on hay bales as the sun goes down.

The days are full and joyful - yoga in a field overlooking the sea, hikes to secluded beaches, cold water swims, paddleboarding and coasteering.

At night the yoga moves into a cosy hay barn, fairy lights strung overhead, everyone snuggled under blankets, salt in their hair and smiles on their faces. Everyone leaves with aching legs and a very full heart.

Before the weekend Natalie and I talked through what mattered most to her, the images that would best showcase the retreat to future guests and do the hardest work in her marketing.

The cold water swimming was especially important, and she wanted to capture the feeling of getting into the sea, the laughter and joy of that first sharp breath of cold water. I photographed those moments from a distance, letting the genuine reactions speak for themselves.

But equally important was capturing the human side of the weekend, old friends reuniting, new ones being made, the warm hugs, big laughs and the quiet moments in between that tell the whole story.

For the hikes I joined the group completely, walking alongside everyone, sharing the experience rather than just observing it. It's that closeness that gives the images their warmth and honesty.

“Sue has an incredible ability to capture not just what our retreats look like, but what they feel like.

From the moment we started planning, she took the time to understand what mattered most to me and the story I wanted to tell. On the weekend itself, she blended seamlessly into the group, putting everyone completely at ease and capturing genuine moments of connection, joy and adventure without ever feeling intrusive.

The images have become one of the most valuable marketing tools for Yoga Field and Sea.

They tell the story of the retreat, helping future guests picture themselves there before they’ve even booked. If you’re looking for someone who will truly understand your event and create beautiful, authentic photography that reflects its heart, I couldn’t recommend Sue more.”
